A team of three ACJC students did the College proud at the 2009 World Finals of the World Scholar’s Cup. Hosted by Nanyang Girls’ High School from 12-15 June 2009, the tournament was first launched in 2006. Organised by by DemiDec, the World Scholar’s Cup is among the world’s most prestigious academic competitions and it follows the format of the US Academic Decathlon. Nearly 100 secondary school teams (70 senior teams and 30 junior teams) from 13 countries, including the US, UK, UAE, Turkey, Australia, Korea, Vietnam and China, competed at the 2009 tournament.
There are 4 grueling rounds in the tournament, all centered on this year’s theme, “The Fall of Empires”:
(1) Scholar's Challenge: 200 MCQs to be completed within 2 hours (6 subjects:
Visual Arts, History, Literature, Economics, Math, Science)
(2) Debate: 2 rounds of debates with teams from 2 other countries
(3) Essay: Each competitor writes an essay based on the prompts and sources
(4) Scholar's Bowl: 90 questions (15 seconds each) to be answered in front of an
audience
After two days of intense competition, the pioneer ACJC team comprising Le Minh Hieu (2SA4), Anil Sebastian Pulickel (2SA1) and Glen Tan (2AD3) emerged with the following accolades:

We congratulate this pioneer team of ACJC students for their stellar performance at the 2009 World Scholar’s Cup Finals. The team hopes that their achievement will inspire others to better their records in the coming tournaments.
