On 25 April 2009, the Malay Cultural Society (MCS) sent a group of 5 students to compete in Semarak Temasek, an Inter-JC cultural competition. The theme was ‘Black and White Silver Screen’. Participants were required to act out snippets of a film that belonged to the Silver Screen era before singing an evergreen song of their choice.
The group decided to come up with an original script with the theme in mind. Despite stiff competition from colleges such as TPJC and MJC, the group emerged as Champion and clinched the Best Female Vocalist Award as well. This is the first time that such a competition was organised by TJC. The judges were well-known artistes from the Malay Music Industry. The comments given were that the group had scored highly on vocals, originality and creativity. The group has not only won the competition but has also managed to set the standard for the coming years. Well done, AC!
