For a period of about 5 weeks during the 2008 November to December school vacation, 5 of our students embarked on a full-time research attachment programme at various A*STAR Research Institutes.

From left to right: Zhang Yi Ming, Dao The Phuc, Florence Limbri, Aditya Sunil Nalkur, Hairul Hakkim s/o Kuthibutheen.
Florence Limbri was selected to be one of the emcees for the closing ceremony of the programme, which was held on 20 February 2009 at Biopolis Street, Matrix Building.
The above-mentioned students who have successfully completed their attachment programmes, viz. JC Science Award, A*STAR-MOE Local Student Attachment Programme (LSAP), A*STAR Young Researcher Attachment Programme (YRAP), are:

The following are some thoughts and reflections from three of the participants:
“Working independently, we learnt to take initiative in clarifying our doubts with the researchers, to share our opinions and to discuss the results of our experiments with them. All in all, this eye-opening attachment has widened my horizons of scientific research and has given me a better understanding of how the life of a researcher is like.” – Zhang Yi Ming
“At the IHPC, I learnt how computers are used in the various fields of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I have also used high tech equipment to understand the aerodynamics of different aircraft. In addition, I have learnt that research is about making mistakes and persevering to eventually succeed.” – Aditya Sunil Nalkur
“My research attachment experience with the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Science has been extremely fruitful and has provided me with deep insights into the reasons and procedures of research in the 21st Century. The attachment was instrumental in satisfying my curiosity about research and also developed my interest in this field.” – Hairul Hakkim s/o Kuthibutheen
