2007 GCE ‘A’ Level Highlights of Results

The class of 2007 was the first batch of students who were examined under the new JC curriculum introduced in 2006. Under the revised curriculum, candidates now need to offer at least 3 H2 and 1 H1 content-based subjects, of which at least one must be a contrasting subject. In addition to this, candidates also have to offer GP or KI, PW and Mother Tongue Language. The revised A-level curriculum is not directly comparable with the previous A-level curriculum, given the extensive changes to the curriculum structure.

To better reflect the intent of the revised A-level curriculum, which emphasizes both breadth and depth, MOE has introduced a new indicator of “percentage of candidates obtaining at least 3 H2 passes, with a pass in GP or KI.” Using this new indicator, 92.8% of our students achieved at least 3 H2 passes, with a pass in GP or KI surpassing the national percentage of 87.5%.

ACJC has 155 students who obtained a minimum of 3 H2 distinctions.

The top student for the class of 2007 is Chua Ee Cheong from 2SA1. He obtained 7 distinctions in H2 Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, H1 Geography, GP, PW & CL and 2 Merits in H3 Science Research Programme and H3 Mathematics. There are two top students in the Arts with 6 distinctions. The first top Arts student is Hu Huiyi from 2AA1 who obtained distinctions in H2 Geography, Economics, Mathematics and H1 Literature, GP and Chinese and a B in PW. The second top Arts student is Amisha Kabra from 2AA4 who obtained distinctions in H2 English Literature, Economics, Mathematics and H1 Biology, GP and Hindi. She also obtained a B in PW.

There are 8 students with 7 distinctions and 37 students with 6 distinctions. The percentage of students who passed GP is at 97.4% compared to the national average of 91.6%. All our candidates passed H2 Knowledge and Inquiry. 10 H1 subjects and 11 H2 subjects had 100% passes. All candidates from the College taking H2 Art obtained distinctions! 13 H1 subjects and 14 H2 subjects had percentage passes at or above the national average while 12 H1 subjects and 10 H2 subjects had percentage distinctions above the national average.

The performance of our students in H3 subjects was also impressive. The percentage of students who obtained distinctions and merit in H3 Literature in English, Geography, History, Mathematics, Proteomics was higher than the national average. For external H3s, the percentage of our students who obtained distinctions and merit in H3 Contemporary Physics, Numbers & Matrices and Geopolitics was higher than the national average.

We want to thank God for His blessings and give Him all glory for His continued faithfulness to the College.  The Best Is Yet To Be.
