Vietnam Education Programme 2010

The ACJC Science and Mathematics Council organized a student-exchange programme known as the Vietnam Educational Programme from 27th Nov to 5th Dec 2010. This was a collaboration between ACJC and Tran Phu High School in Dalat. The participants of this programme consisted of 29 students and 4 teachers from ACJC, and 470 students and 10 teachers from Tran Phu High School.

The programme enabled students to appreciate the Vietnamese culture as well as interact with less privileged children in SOS orphanage. Our students provided entertainment by means of games and songs which were well received by the children.

We have a better understanding of the Vietnamese education system via class obeservation and interactions with the students of Tran Phu High School. Our students attended English classes. We conducted various exciting Science workshops and competitions for the local students.

The Vietnamese students impressed our students with their positive learning attitudes as well as attentiveness in class and academic discipline. There were home visits, inter-school friendly games such as soccer and Captain’s ball. Students from both schools jointly performed at a concert to promote cultural understanding.

During the last two days of the trip, our students embarked on a learning journey in Dalat by visiting City Flower Garden, Liang Biang Mountain and XQ Embroidery village.

They also went to Ho Chin Minh City where they visited places such as Cuchi Tunnel, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Reunification Palace which was famous for its architecture. It was built in 1868 for the General Governor of Cochinchina when Vietnam was under colonial rule by the French.

The Vietnamese gave a very warm welcome to ACJC during our time spent at SOS orphanage and Tran Phu High School as well as during the home visits. It was a meaningful excursion which allowed our students to better appreciate the Vietnamese culture and understand the local people via experiential learning as well as visits to various heritage sites and museums.
