On the 9th of January 2011, the ACJC Canoeing team participated in the Singapore Canoe Marathon 2011 held at the Marina Reservoir. Our ACJC canoeists participated in the Junior category events which required rowers to complete a distance of 18km. Though faced with many obstacles, our students persevered and did the school proud by emerging victorious despite the fierce competition.
By God’s grace, Samantha Tan and Lim Yi Ping of 2SA8 clinched the Gold medal in the Junior Women’s K2 event. Following close behind were Maxine Chen of 2SD2 and Charmaine Tan of 2SB6 who came in 3rd place in the same event. Furthermore, Mandy Koh of 2SB7 and Chen Liwen of 2SC3 fought off the competition and finished in 6th place.
In the Junior Men K1 event, Jon Chan Hao of 2SB7 came in 5th place while Timothy Ho Zhi Hui of 2SC4 finished 9th in the event. Finally, Kok Bing Cai of 2SB2 and Ryan Nicholas Cheah of 2SD1 finished 4th in the Junior Men K2 event.
The Canoeing team had invested many hours training during the December holidays and it was rewarding to witness our hard work pay off. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our teachers-in-charge for their selfless dedication in their support of the team and also, to God through whom all things are possible. Our achievements and experiences gained in this marathon would spur us on as we begin our quest for glory at the upcoming National Inter-school Canoeing Championships.
