From L-R: Frederick Lee, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Senior MOS Ms Grace Fu, Sarah Chan Mun Ling, Robert William Straughan
In the month of March, three teams of students from ACJC participated in the prestigious NUS Chancellors Challenge Shield Competition. This grueling competition tested the students’ knowledge of global current affairs as well as their awareness of social and political challenges facing Singapore. The students competed in individual and team-based current affairs quizzes, and also had to submit a three minute video showcasing an implementable policy initiative that is relevant to the URA Concept Plan 2011. The top team from ACJC had to present and orally defend their video before distinguished judges and honoured guests, including the Senior MOS for Education and National Development, Ms Grace Fu.
This team emerged runners-up in the entire competition, losing out to HCI. The team members are Robert William Straughan (2SD2), Sarah Chan Mun Ling (2SD2), Nguyen Tuan Anh (2SA1) and Frederick Lee (2SD2). Another team from ACJC won the “outstanding performance” award in the Application Question segment of the competition. The team members are Nigel Teo (2SB1), Samantha Woon (2SA6), Chia Wei Jie (2SC1) and Timothy Soo (2AA3). Congratulations to all the NUS Chancellor’s Shield participants for doing yourselves and the school proud!
