5 March 2010 saw the release of the much anticipated A-Level results for students taking the JC curriculum revised in 2006. The revised curriculum emphasises both academic breadth and depth and all candidates have to offer at least 7 subjects. This comprises 3 H2 and 1 H1 content-based subjects, one of which must be a contrasting subject, H1 General Paper (GP) or H2 Knowledge and Inquiry (KI), H1 Project Work (PW) and H1 Mother Tongue Language.
A Level Subjects
92.1% of our students achieved at least 3 H2 passes with a pass in GP or KI, surpassing the national percentage of 87.9 %. Over the years, the College’s GP results have always been consistently above the national average, and this year is no exception. 96.2% of our students passed GP, surpassing the national average of 92.2%. All our students passed H2 Knowledge and Inquiry. The percentage of distinctions for GP at 29.1% is more than one and a half times the national average of 18.9%.
We are happy to report that 190 students obtained a minimum of 3 distinctions or more for their H2 content subjects. This means that out of a cohort size of 853 students, 22.3% of them obtained distinctions for at least all of their content H2 subjects despite the requirement of a contrasting subject, compared with last year’s figure of 21.8%.
Of the 16 subjects offered at the H2 level, 11 subjects obtained 100% passes. 15 H2 subjects had percentage passes at or above the national average while 7 H2 subjects had percentage distinctions above the national average.
Out of the 19 subjects offered at H1 level, 12 subjects obtained 100% passes. 16 H1 subjects had percentage passes at or above the national average while 11 H1 subjects had percentage distinctions above the national average.
ACJC is also pleased with the performance of our students who offered H3 subjects. Of the 16 subjects offered at H3 level, 13 subjects had percentage passes at or above the national average. H3 Game Theory & Competition, History, Molecular Biology and Science Research had percentage distinctions above the national average.
