singapore canoe marathon

On the 17th of January 2010, the ACJC Canoeing team participated in the Singapore Canoe Marathon 2010 which was held at the Marina Reservoir. Participants of various boat classes competed in the Novice, Junior and Senior events which required rowers to complete distances of 14km, 27km and 36km respectively. Despite the sun’s scorching heat, our students braved the elements and did the school proud by emerging victorious in a fiercely contested field of rowers.

By God’s grace, Baey Yan Ling of 2SA4 did well and managed to clinch the Gold medal in the Novice Women’s T1 event. Ong Yan Xiang of 2SB5 and Tay Yi Qing of 2SA1 fought off the competition and came in second for the Junior Men K2 event. Cliff Lim of 2SC2 and Tan Sheng Jian of 2AA3 came in closely behind and finished third for the same event. Lastly, Jarrod Chan of 2AD3 and Muslihuddin Mansor of 2SC9 pushed through the pain barrier and obtained a third position for the C2 Junior Men event.

 
The canoeing team had invested many hours into training during the December holidays and it was rewarding to see our hard work pay off. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks our teachers- in-charge for their selfless dedication to the team and also, God, through whom all things are possible. The results garnered from this marathon would surely spur us on as we begin our quest for glory at the upcoming National Inter-school Canoeing Championships.
