KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Programmes
There is one double and one single period for PE. While the double period lesson is devoted to games teaching, fitness conditioning is emphasized during the single period. Trial fitness tests are conducted for the students in term 2. The test results help to identify students who need remedial trainings. Health talks conducted by the Physical Education teachers at the beginning of each term give students the theoretical knowledge on health and fitness. Lectures on principles of fitness, nutrition, weight control, stress management and exercise adherence are conducted.
Recognition
The introduction of the reward system in 1999 increased students’ motivation and improved physical fitness results. Using the fitness index of the class as a criterion, rewards are awarded to the top three classes within each level. Other awards include medals to record breakers of individual stations and the fittest boy and girl award for each level.
Other Factors
The college gymnasium within the sports complex is well used by the students. They are able to work on the various machines to improve their fitness. Students have access to the gymnasium throughout the week. The sports complex also has an Olympic pool, running track and outdoor fitness stations where students can improve their fitness. The staff of the college’s Physical Education Department is well trained, each with at least a degree in fitness-related areas.
