Interns For National Geographic Explorer

 

National Geographic Explorer is lookign at the possibility of engaging interns from our  college to be guides for the Nature Trail Programme. This programme will run from January to May 2012.


The interns are to lead a group 20 primary students in a nature trail in either of the locations i.e. Sungei Buloh, Jacob Ballas Children's Garden or Sentosa. These trails involve the use of Nikon's DSLR and Aim & Shoot digital cameras. The interns are required to teach the students how to use the cameras. All interns will undergo a training session on how to use the cameras scheduled in December 2011.

The Nature Trails walks will be held 3 times a week with a morning and afternoon session on each day starting January 2012. Each session will be 3 hours long. Each guide/intern will lead a group of 20 primary students at any given session as mentioned. Guides have to have a pleasant disposition as they are required to interact with the students through the walk.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital Induction Programme for 'A' Level Students

 

Applications are now open for the next run of the Hospital Induction Programme in December 2011,January 2012 and February 2012. This programme provides an overview of the Singapore healthcare setting and focuses on the issues that doctors and would-be-doctors will need to be aware, for example, ethics and professionalismin medicine, patient communications, patient safety, healthcare financing etc. During the programme, participants will be given the opportunity to shadow our healthcare professionals to understand the nature of their work and interaction with patients.


Each programme run has  been scheduled on:

  • 12 - 16 December 2011
  • 16 - 20 January 2012
  • 6 - 10 February 2012

Alumni Project regarding Higher Education

 

Some ex-students from the Class of 2008 are working with Professors and Consultants from the NUS Business School to study the needs and perspectives of potential university students in order to better cater to them.  The team is part of a larger narrative that is trying to examine ways NUS Business School could better provide for incoming JC students all across Singapore by collating the perspectives of the various stakeholders of NUS Business School.

Bond-Free Scholarship: Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship

 

The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship was coneived in the belief that not all scholarships are for schlars, and that achievement is not measured by academic performance alone.  The late Mr Howe Yoon Chong, a former Chairman of PSA, was a visionary Singaporean who succeeded against odds to build Sinagpore's first container terminal, establishing Singapore as the top container port today.  In his honour, the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship aims to recognise the same spirit of fortitude, by awarding bond-free scholarships to students from low-income families in need of financial aid.

The bond-free scholarship would pay for tuition , other compulsory fees and provide a living and book allowance.

Applicants should:
- Be Singapore Citizens, aged 25 and below
- Qualify or gain entry to NUS, NTU, SMU, Polytechnic or ITE

The scholarship funds full-time study, up to a maximum of 4 years, of any course leading to a Certificate / Higher Certificate, Diploma / Advanced Diploma, Basic Degree (up to Honours).

Applications open on 1 December 2011 for students commencing studies in the academic year 2012.

National University of Singapore Architecture Society

 

 

NUS Architecture is holding their annual open studio tours in line with Archifest 2011.  Students interested in joining architecture are invited to a tour on 21st and 28th of October 2011, from 2-4pm. The open studio will demystify the life of an architecture student, shed some light on architecture school and their working environment.

 


Ministry of Education: Teaching Internship Programme (TIP) 2012

 

 
This programme provides candidates the chance to experience what teaching is like through a 6-10 weeks internship in a school, held from Jan to March 2012.

Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) - Peter Lim Sports Scholarship 2011

 

The Singapore Olympic Foundation is inviting young athletes to apply for the Singapore Olympic Foundation – Peter Lim Sports Scholarship 2011.  This scholarship provides for yet another source of funding for young, aspiring athletes who may need additional financial support.
 
Background
The scholarship aims to help promising but financially challenged athletes to further their training and development in sports.  In addition, it also seeks to support athletes on the high performance pathway (i.e. with the National Youth or National teams) who require additional funding.
 
Timeline for Scholarship Application
    * 1 July 2011 – Application closes

Quantum of Award
    * Primary School level athletes – up to $2,000 per year;
    * Secondary and tertiary level athletes – up to $3,000 per year;
    * High performance athletes with specific needs – up to $20,000 per year

The Straits Times will be publishing a special newspaper feature titled ‘Scholarship & Top University Special’ on 17 July 2011. In conjunction with this, they will be holding an exhibition and seminar at Suntec City Concourse from 10.00am to 6.00pm.

This special newspaper feature and the event are planned specially to meet the needs of students and their parents with respect to selection of scholarships and universities.

- the nature and scope of their profession
- what excites them about the work they do
- what are the main challenges they face in the profession
- what, if any, are the qualities, personality types or skills that are essential for the profession
- what qualifications are essential for the profession or are there particular degrees in certain areas that the profession prefers
- what the profession hopes to see in a candidate's CV/resume
